Know the Content and How to Teach It
2.1 Content and Teaching Strategies of the Teaching Area
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the concepts, substance and structure of the content and teaching strategies of the teaching area.
The way in which we teach directly impacts what it is we are teaching. It is essential to know to a deep level the content you are teaching and the best resources that will assist you in teaching the particular message. I can confidently engage with the Victorian Curriculum and have continued to progress in my use of it within my planning. As my teaching journey continues I also hope to remain engaged with current and beneficial resources that help both me and my students in lessons and lesson planning.

2.2 Content Selection and Organisation
Organise content into an effective learning and teaching sequence.
A lot of work goes on behind the scenes of a lesson. In order to maintain high teaching and learning standards one must remain organised and aware of the abilities and personalities within the classroom. Lessons must motivate and challenge students to an appropriate level and encourage them to look and learn further. To achieve this within our students our organisation of lessons and the way in which we present information must be manipulated in ways that best suit the learners in the classroom. I believe I am beginning to display this ability whilst out on placement in that I try to adjust my lessons to the level and interests of the students in my classroom.
2.3 Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting
Use curriculum, assessment and reporting knowledge to design learning sequences and lesson plans.
In order to help our students succeed and achieve set learning outcomes we must keep in mind assessment and curriculum when designing our lesson plans. This is so that we can pave the way to success and facilitate students in achieving desired learning outcomes. Students have a much better chance at success if they know what they need to work towards and if they have small learning goals in place that will help to lead them towards a larger goal. This is where I aim to incorporate facilitation into my teaching, by providing students with smaller learning goals that will lead to the success of a larger leaning goal. This I believe would increase motivation and engagement within a classroom.
2.4 Understand and Respect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People to Promote Reconciliation Between Indigenous and Non-Indigenous Australians
Demonstrate broad knowledge of, understanding of and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and languages.
There has been a large focus on the strategies for teaching in regards to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people and their culture and this has definitely increased my awareness on the responsibilities I will have as a teacher in regards to respecting Indigenous culture and my students families and how I can engage with all of my students and ensure they all receive the same opportunities for learning. Prior to these units I had little knowledge on the correct practices in regards to Indigenous culture within the classroom and I have greatly benefited from learning the correct procedures. I still feel like my confidence needs to grow but am sure that with more experience I will become more capable as It is essential that students who may have an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Island background are provided with the best possible schooling experience.
2.5 Literacy and Numeracy Strategies
Know and understand literacy and numeracy teaching strategies and their application in teaching areas.
Literacy and numeracy are two very important aspects of learning and in order to maintain motivation and interest, it is important to implement strategies that are diverse and resourceful so that students can be exposed to new ways of thinking and learning. It is important to apply literacy and numeracy skills to students lives so that they can understand its relevancy and how they can adapt its use in their everyday lives. I believe that making school tasks relevant to current society is extremely important and beneficial for preparing students as they continue to develop and become stronger and more regular members in the community.
2.6 Information and Communication Technology
Implement teaching strategies for using ICT to expand curriculum learning opportunities for students.
ICT can be an amazing resource that can enrich and diversify lessons in ways that once were not possible. I believe that ICT can be of enourmous benefit and really encourage students to try new things and expand their thinking. It can be used in so many different ways and all different kinds of situations and provides an amazing data base with current information that is always increasing and giving us access to the whole entire world. Students can have so much more exposure to what life is like for others and gives them the opportunity to research and discover for themselves which can be an outstanding learning technique. I think there are many benefits to using ICT in learning and I believe that students can really thrive from using it, I hope to regularly use it throughout my teaching journey.
