Plan For and Implement Effective Teaching and Learning
3.1 Establish Challenging Learning Goals
Set learning goals that provide achievable challenges for students of varying abilities and characteristics.
What is most important about learning goals is there ability to extend a student yet also pave a pathway to success. They need to be achievable and within sight of the child in order to be motivating yet must also require a student to push themselves to a higher level. In order to achieve this it is important to consider individual characteristics and ensure the learning goals suit the learning style and are developed in conjunction with the student. I accommodate to individual learning goals through one on one conversation with a student during a task.
3.2 Plan, Structure and Sequence Learning Plans
Plan lesson sequences using knowledge of student learning, content and effective teaching strategies.
When planning my lessons I like to consider the students and how the might interpret the activities. I also like to consider the mixed abilities and how I can accommodate for them. I think this is what leads to developing effective teaching strategies and the ability to deliver meaningful and informative content to students. By considering all aspects of a lesson that go beyond whether an activity will be successful or not is what gives a lesson more depth and meaning.

3.3 Use Teaching Strategies
Include a range of teaching strategies.
In order to reach every student in the classroom, different teaching strategies must all be used within one lesson in order to increase understanding. As a pre-service teacher I am still developing my understanding of teaching strategies, however placement has given me the opportunity to observe more experienced teachers who all implement a wide array of teaching strategies. From this I have discovered that I think it is important to ensure you are encouraging the participation of all students in class discussions and activities, and that this should be done carefully depending on the confidence or ability of the child to ensure a positive experience.
3.4 Select and Use Resources
Demonstrate knowledge of a range of resources, including ICT, that engage students in their learning.
In a previous assignment, groups were given a maths topic and we were to design a lesson based around our given topic. Each group then presented a micro lesson to the other class members and revealed an array of resources that could be used for their topic. This was extremely beneficial as it gave us resources for aspects of the curriculum. Throughout my placements I have also been able to experience different resources both ICT and otherwise, that assist in the learning development of students. I believe that these resources can be a great aid in learning and help to motivate and encourage students.
3.5 Use Effective Classroom Communication
Demonstrate a range of verbal and non-verbal communication strategies to support student engagement.
Verbal instruction may not be of much benefit to many students and could leave many feeling isolated in the classroom. Demonstrations and activities which require exploration by the student in conjunction with verbal instructions and cues, can help to accommodate to all learning styles. When teaching lessons whilst out on my placements I tried to ensure I applied this and wanted to help all learning styles so that all students felt capable and confident to complete the activity.

3.6 Evaluate and Improve Teaching Programs
Demonstrate broad knowledge of strategies that can be used to evaluate teaching programs to improve student learning.
Throughout my course so far, and from what I have seen whilst out on placements, it is essential to review teaching and learning programs in order to make sure that they are beneficial and contributing to learning in a positive and constructive way. This can be linked to feedback and how important it is to be getting external opinions from colleagues, students and students families so that you can understand objective opinions on the strengths and weaknesses of a program. This is something I find very important, particularly as feedback is what will help you improve as a teacher and facilitator.
3.7 Engage Parents/Carers in the Educative Process
Describe a broad range of strategies for involving parents/carers in the educative process.
Engaging parents and carers in the classroom can be a great way to increase diversity within the classroom. Families of students have a bank of knowledge that could be of great use within the classroom. They can create an interest point within the day and get the students excited and out of their usual routine. Family members could also assist in the classroom and in programs and excursions and therefore allow students to get more one on one assistance if required. Involving parents and carers and even the local community can emphasise a feeling of team work and promote cooperation and collaboration in students.
