Create and Maintain Supportive and Safe Learning Environments
4.1 Support Student Participation
Identify strategies to support inclusive student participation and engagement in classroom activities
In order to have all students willingly participate and regularly include themselves in all classroom activities, the learning environment needs to radiate positivity and acceptance. Positive and constructive language must be used and peer acceptance and reinforcement must be encouraged so that students feel that their voice will always be heard and accepted. Beginning with the environment and the attitudes within that environment will contribute largely to students engaging themselves within the classroom.
4.2 Manage Classroom Activities
Demonstrate the capacity to organise classroom activities and provide clear directions.
Having an organsied classroom will not only promote a more positive learning environemt but will contribute to students being able to finish required tasks, therefore reducing their stress and increasing the confidence and opportunity to extend themselves further. Providing clear instructions falls under the umbrella of classroom organisation as it saves time and is more clear for students to understand. These elements are crucial in providing a constructive learning space. I am developing my ability to provide clear instructions through practice during my placements.

4.3 Manage Challenging Behaviour
Demonstrate knowledge of practical approaches to manage challenging behaviour.
Managing challenging behaviour is not something I have been exposed to yet on a larger scale than the occasional interruption. This is something that I hope I will be able to gain more experience in before I finish my course so that I can go out into a school confident with my ability to manage difficult behaviour. From my understanding so far it is important to understand where the behaviour is coming from and finding out why the child is finding difficulty in expressing themselves and being aware of the signs leading up to any misbehaviour. I do not believe that anger should be met with anger or that aggression only be treated by punishment. I believe that there needs to be one on one discussions with the student away from the audience of their peers and I believe that the teacher and the student need to work together to help the student learn to express themselves appropriately. If the child knows that their teacher is on their side it may be easier for them to put more effort into improving their behaviour.
4.4 Maintain Student Safety
Describe strategies that support students’ wellbeing and safety working within school and/or system, curriculum and legislative requirements.
Student safety is crucial and if a student does not feel safe they cannot be expected to learn or even obtain a healthy level within all health dimensions. In order to raise awareness of safety issues it is important to hold discussions and circle times with students to help them develop their own ideas about safety and its importance within the school. Telling them what to do may not help them remember but if they are discussing and coming up with ideas themselves they may feel more obligated to follow their ideas as it was made by them, they may also be more likely to remember it. This is how I feel would be one of the more effective strategies or promoting wellbeing and safety withing schools.
4.5 Use ICT Safely, Responsibly and Ethically
Demonstrate an understanding of the relevant issues and the strategies available to support the safe, responsible and ethical use of ICT in learning and teaching.
ICT can be an amazing resource within the classroom, however could also quickly become dangerous. Students need to be aware of cyber-bullying and the dramatic affects that it can have on someones life. There are many ICT resources that address cyber-safety and cyber-bullying and are really beneficial in raising awareness. Students need to understand that ICT is a privilege and should be used responsibly and respectfully by everyone whether it be at school or outside of school.
